Even if you’re not making money, you can still make money for ART 180. This month and next, you can download a dollar-sized template from the website (or cut out something of your own about that size), bestow your ideas for change in the community upon it in whatever medium you choose, and mail it or drop it off at one of the participating locations with a $10 bill. If you’re really not making any dough, have someone sponsor you! If you’re making too much, sponsor kids in your neighborhood—the proceeds go toward programs that help underprivileged talent thrive. Then, on October 10th, see the dollars (they’re going for 1,000 of them) exhibited at VCU’s new Brandcenter. Need some inspiration? Check out what folks have been posting on the blog at http://changeforaten.blogspot.com. Here are the gritty details:

Final due date: September 22

Mailing address: ART 180 | 0 E. 4th St, Studio 56, Richmond, VA 23224

Drop-off locations:
• First Market Bank’s 10 free-standing locations
• Crossroads Art Center (2016 Staples Mill Road)
• Crossroads Coffee & Ice Cream ( 3600 Forest Hill Ave. and 26 N. Morris)
• Café Olé (2 N. 6th Street)
• Mongrel (Carytown)
• Need Supply (Carytown)
• Lift Coffee Shop & Café (218 W. Broad Street)

If you’re feeling particularly amped, you can make an ART 180 bank at your office or in your neighborhood. Explain the tenets of the project to your coworkers and friends, set up a collection box, and wrangle as many art/cash submissions as you can. There’s a prize for biggest bank! You might be surprised how many of your buddies relish the chance to counterfeit. Make it a community thing—artist Carra Rose is throwing a pre-stocked Change for a Ten art-making party at her house, giving attendees the option of making, donating, or both. For more info and to download the template, visit http://www.art180.org.
