Metal fans of Virginia, take heed! McCormack’s Irish Pub in Shockoe Bottom just reinstated their Metal Mondays concert series, and has shows planned well into April to satisfy your weekly need for blistering riffs.

This coming Monday, March 16, the bar will welcome Make Like Murder and All Has Fallen to the stage. Make Like Murder is a Richmond fivesome that produces a veritable wall of somewhat mathy metal, with occasional and unexpected melodic bits amongst the onslaught of sound.

The five members of Virginia Beach’s All Has Fallen have been playing together since 2004, and are currently working on a new album slated for release this summer. Their first full-length, the album is set to be produced by Cory Smoot of Gwar and Mensrea fame.

The following week, March 23, Mensrea and Pike Possum are on the Metal Monday bill. Metal fans in Virginia (and all over the world) are already familiar with Mensrea’s tight, progressive death metal, but Pike Possum seems to be a relative newcomer. The currently-instrumental self-called “stoner metal” group is looking for a vocalist, but it’s nice to see a trio now and then in a genre where the quintet reigns supreme.

North Carolinians Sourvein will be bringing their down-tempo doom sludge to Virginia for the March 30 installment. The band, which has been round for more than 15 years, just released a limited edition EP titled “Imperial Bastard” last fall, and is currently working on their third full-length album, to be released this year.

The first Monday of April will find Withersoul and The Day of the Beast as your weekly ambassadors of metal, and April 13 will feature War Graves with guests to be announced.
The formula of two bands, four bucks for 21+ and six for 18-20, and a by-midnight finishing goal (for you working stiffs) promises a perfect destination for those of you not getting enough metal over the weekend.
