BOOK | 17
Bill Drummond / Beautiful Books Limited
Bill Drummond is the most lovable jackass of all time. Although the former KLF frontman often seems like a prattling pretentious twat, how could you not admire someone who had the brass huevos to burn 1,000,000 pounds for the sake of… art? Publicity? Shits and giggles? Who knows? Who cares? All you need to know is that this book is about one year in the life of a man who thinks that
literally burning money is hilarious. Part manifesto, part history lesson, and part snide confessional, this semi-autobio-doc is an absolute blast to read from cover to cover, allowing us a glimpse into one of the more ballsy minds working today.
MUSIC | EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS WILL HAPPEN TODAY
David Byrne / Brian Eno / http://www.everythingthathappens.com
It’s always a pleasure to hear from Byrne and Eno. Their collaborations have often waffled on the mad side of genius, blurring genres and breaching borders with a delectably deft pop touch that’s managed to remain surprisingly relevant for the past three decades. The duo’s latest release—available for immediate download—is an absolute joy to behold, twisting and weaving with urgency and energy. Go ahead and plop down the 70 bones for the special edition—it’s well worth it.

DVD | BEFORE I FORGET
Jacques Nolot / Strand Releasing
A movie about an old gay AIDS-stricken gigolo who’s trying to cope with losing beauty to the ceaseless onslaught of age? Sheeit, it’s like Nolot is trying to win every award in existence. Almost sounds like a parody of SERIOUS FILM, doesn’t it? However, despite some occasionally overwrought performances and a spotty script, Nolot’s portrait of a dying man is both devastating and surprisingly poignant, masterfully tugging on the right heart strings at the right time.

DVD | TRAIN ON THE BRAIN: THE ULTIMATE RAILROAD MOVIE
Alison Murray / Hollywood Can Suck It
Dear first-year fi lm students everywhere: just because you have a camera doesn’t mean you can make an effective documentary. We will not cleave to your mercurial flights of fancy, swallowing whatever watery ejaculate you decide to shoot in our general direction. Alison Murray, I don’t particularly care for your brand of condescending class tourism, which is neither enlightening nor fascinating. Rubbing elbows with hobos doesn’t make you more worldly or compassionate; it just makes you more of a twat.

BOOK | KRAZY! THE DELIRIOUS WORLD OF ANIME + COMICS + VIDEO GAMES + ART
Bruce Grenville / University of California Press
Hello, geeks everywhere! Praise your new mother-fuckin’ Bible. Grenville’s new history-cum-textbook is an entertainingly extensive and exhaustive document about the validity of the geek underground, making strong arguments for our favorite past times as nascent forms of SERIOUS ART!!! The insights and writings from such luminaries as Will Wright make it well worth the price of admission. I totally would have stayed awake in class if all my textbooks were as entertaining as this one.
