If you’ve ever wanted to go back to high school, you’ve got the chance to do it again in the recently re-released role-playing videogame, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES for the PlayStation 2.  Among hardcore gamers, the Shin Megami Tensei series is known for starting the monster battling craze in Japan years before Pokémon, but the ghoulish character designs, foul language and mature themes in SMT sets the series apart from other cutesy clones.

Not only does Persona 3 FES have one of the world’s longest titles, but it also includes an enthralling story that will keep you hooked.

At night, creatures from the shadow world threaten the real world, so a group of high school students must explore Tartarus, a mystical tower inside their school that links the two realms, to battle them.  In order to gain skills and attributes, the main character has to attend classes and club meetings and create strong friendships with his classmates during the day.

The original version of Persona 3 was released stateside in 2007 to critical acclaim, but its claim to fame was the party members’ graphic method of summoning their frightful alter-egos by shooting themselves in the head!

First-timers get an enhanced version of the original game here, and FES includes an original second quest with a brand-new character and an even higher difficulty level.  If you bought the game the first time around, you can even transfer your old party over via memory card, so you don’t have to start playing the new content from scratch.
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES is available now for the budget price of $29.99 MSRP.
