You have about a month to figure out how early you need to get in line for the next jam. Good luck! –MAU | 12 | Sep 25, 2008 8:21 AM |
| Sine Irish Pub | Sine Irish Pub Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 Sure and begorrah, it was all about the wearin' of the green and enjoying libations, Irish or otherwise. Talk about luck! | 13 | Sep 25, 2008 8:08 AM |

| Shockoe Bottom | Saturday, July 26, 2008 It was birds, baby, birds, at the “Gone to the Birds” Purple Martin Festival, where thousands of the little flockers made everyone’s neck crane upward. The martins (incidentally, not connected with any local agency) dropped in–luckily, mostly not on–the huge Shockoe Bottom crowd, who enjoyed such evening-themed treats as purple ice cream and yes, purple martinis. Onward and skyward! | 14 | Jul 31, 2008 10:19 AM |
| Havana Heat | VMFA Thursday, July 17, 2008 If you knew your meringue from your cha-cha – or even if you didn’t-– there was plenty of moving and shaking going on during the Cuban-flavored event at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The night was sultry outside, and even though the air conditioning was cool, the action was hot inside with professional and amateurs alike meeting and greeting amidst the pulsating sounds of the Latin beat put out by DJ Steve. | 13 | Jul 24, 2008 9:05 AM |
| Raft Race | Sunday, July 12, 2008 HOSPITALITY packed a busload of people in Pony Pasture along with Red Bull, music by DJ Wizard, rafts, inner tubes, rope swings, dogs, dragons, knights, floating yards, water guns, Batman and more. Mory won the Redbull race and the Knights of Freedom won the trip for two to the Red Bull soapbox race in Philly. | 14 | Jul 17, 2008 9:22 AM |
| Beer Festival | Saturday, July 5, 2008 The beer selection was great for what ales you at this festival of all things hoppy and yeasty. | 80’s Prom Night | Friday, June 27, 2008 It was boogie, oogie, oogie all night long at Gallery 5’s event that benefited Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia. Better yet, they didn’t have to sit through another boring algebra class the day of the event. | 13 | Jul 07, 2008 11:13 AM |
| Colonial Downs | Saturday, June 21, 2008 And they’re off! It was time to pony up to the bar, or the track, at an event that combined icy brews, cool music rhythms, and hot horse racing. Thoroughbred racing’s top three-year old turf horses competed in the fourth running of the Colonial Turf Cup. Twenty microbrews, festival food, and live entertainment were all sure bets for the day. | 11 | Jun 26, 2008 4:03 PM |

St. Pierre taught at a pre-event seminar before he and other contenders duked it out during an evening of pure mixed martial arts, styled as “Retaliation,” and fans roared their approval during the action. | 13 | Jun 19, 2008 9:16 AM |
| Vibefest 08 | Sunday, June 6, 2008 The atmosphere was hot, hot, hot and it wasn’t just about the weather. The food and the live music were sensational and the vibe was, well, sizzling at this annual festival to benefit the good works of the Positive Vibe Café. With local musicians and chefs on hand to help spread the joy, the event brought smiles to those who made it happen as well as those who came out to support it. | 12 | Jun 12, 2008 10:42 AM |

| Villains Pageant | For one day, heroes and villains agreed to put aside their differences and gathered in the VCU Commons Theater to be judged by their peers. As the final project for freshmen in Josh Bishop’s VCU Art Foundation class, each costumed combatant presented the panel with a monologue describing their powers, costumes choices and moral motivations. Votes were tallied and awards for Best Costume, Greatest Hero and Evilest Genius were presented along with the first ever Golden Brick Award (see front cover). With great power comes a great grade! A+ | 13 | May 07, 2008 1:21 PM |
| Chocolate Festival | Brown was the color of the day at the 2008 Chocolate Festival, in which hundreds of attendees sampled the sweet stuff offered by dozens of chefs and vendors. | Irish Festival | Church Hill Irish Festival - It may have been a bit cold and windy, but that did not dampen the spirit of the crowds of revelers who took to the Church Hill streets for the Irish Festival. Sure and there were green-decked folk aplenty eating and drinking; with singers, dancers, musicians, and merrymakers of all sorts to entertain. It proved that almost everyone has a little Irish in him or her on St. Patrick’s Day–or even a couple of weeks after at the annual Richmond festival. | 11 | Apr 04, 2008 10:01 AM |
| Easter Parade on Monument | An estimated crowd of 25,000 revelers enjoyed the traditional Easter Parade on Monument Avenue. For the uninitiated, this was a parade with no floats, no scary men driving miniature sports cars, no giant balloons grinning weirdly down at you. Rather, this annual event drew lots of giddy folk and their costumed pets, plus pumped-up musicians and performance artists, to the Avenue on a breezy, bright afternoon. Food and beverages were aplenty, and requisite bunnies were in attendance; some placed on hats, some looking suspiciously like dressed-up dogs, some nestling in the grass, egged on. | 14 | Mar 26, 2008 1:52 PM |
| Test-Driving Hondas | I wanted a new car equipped with all the bells and whistles. Tod needed something more practical for his wife and new baby. Dwayne wanted a more fast and furious car | 12 | Mar 26, 2008 1:45 PM |

| 43rd St. Festival of the Arts | Getting Crafty - The 43rd Street Festival of the Arts brought the culturally curious out to browse the tents and makeshift galleries of Westover Hills this past Saturday. The annual street party is billed as a display of “Fine, Funky and Functional Art.” More than 60 artists brought their paintings, prints, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, glasswork and unidentifiable creations out for a day of fresh air. Photographer Ash Daniel lurked about and brought back some photos. | 11 | Feb 27, 2008 2:47 PM |
| Oktoberfest | Last weekend’s Third Annual St. Benedict’s Oktoberfest was one of Richmond’s first German-flavored beer bashes out of the gate. Suds lovers from all over the city converged on the asphalt between St. Benedict Church and Benedictine High School. Makeshift tents and the wafting aroma of fresh foam turned an otherwise innocuous parking lot into a hops-rich Holy Land. Photographer Ash Daniel opted out of wearing his Brickenhosen (official Brick leather knickers) and shot these photos wearing all-American blue jeans. | 10 | Sep 27, 2007 2:47 PM |
| One Nation Under a Groove | Kulture Klash - Saturday, September 8, 2007 Leave it to the global-minded folks at the Camel to host a line-up that included Shakti, the “First Indian Hip-Pop Diva;” The Dubber, a socio-political, reggae-flavored “urban folk” singer; and the Richmond based blues of Riyen Roots (aka Dr. Truth). In addition to the music last Saturday night, the Broad Street space was filled with fashion, art and the kind of international flavor we haven’t seen since our last trip to the Benetton store in D.C. It just goes to show that you can get a taste of other cultures without… well, invading them. Photographer Ash Daniel was there and has been humming “It’s A Small World” ever since. | 10 | Oct 01, 2007 8:44 AM |
